About:
The RCEM Scottish Policy forum is all about making healthcare happen.
Emergency medicine is an area which naturally sits at an interface and can have a key role in the integration of service. The interface is particularly broad between the Emergency Department and General Practice. Mr David Chung, Chair of RCEM Scotland, is pleased to announce a new and thought provoking session with colleagues in General Practice, especially those with whom we share patients with many social issues.
We will hear from GPs at the deep end talking about holistic healthcare and out of hours GPs on reducing admissions to the ED.
The day will also cover realistic medicine, as the emergency department is the place where issues around realistic medicineare crystallised. Deputy CMO, Dr Gregor Smith and Dr Calvin Lightbody from Hairmyres Hospital will be talking about improving the discussions of realistic medicine both within the ED and beyond, so that they become the norm. We will also hear from Professor Alan Patterson who has been looking at ways of preventing silo cultures in the NHS, as the barriers that prevent healthcare services working together effectively.
We are also delighted to have the new BMA chair in Scotland, Dr Lewis Morrison confirm to discuss how the BMA can help with integration between primary and secondary care, and improve the interface, and is ready to hear the views from the coalface to see how the BMA can help.
Finally we are also pleased to welcome back our legal colleagues from the Faculty of Advocates, giving us their views on the Bawa Garba case.
