The Royal College of Emergency Medicine announced the winners of its second Annual Awards on 6th December at the College’s Diploma Ceremony in London.

The winners were:

  • Ninewells Hospital won Emergency Department (ED) Patient Experience Project of the Year
  • King’s Mill Hospital won ED Quality Improvement Project of the Year
  • Royal Sussex County won Emergency Medicine Training Department of the Year
  • The Royal London Hospital for ED Clinical Team of the Year
Dr Taj Hassan, President of the Royal College of Emergence Medicine, said: “The RCEM showcase the fantastic work and patient-centred care being delivered in emergency departments across the country.

“With the majority of emergency departments struggling with the continual pressures of exit block, lack of hospital beds and insufficient workforce numbers, it is easy to forget the good practice and positive work going on every day.

“ED teams constantly aim to provide the best possible care to every patient. We try to support each other and our trainees to the best of our abilities whilst seeking out new methods to improve emergency care. It is important to recognise and celebrate the achievements of emergency department staff who go above and beyond for patients and colleagues every single day of the week.

“Once again there were some really good, innovative and inspiring applications this year and the awards panel had some difficult decisions to make. I would like to congratulate the winners of the Annual Awards 2018-19 and thank all of those who applied.”

The RCEM Annual Awards, in its second year, was created to showcase excellence, celebrate success within the specialty and to encourage interest in Emergency Medicine.

The College would like to congratulate all winners and thank all departments for their entries.
